stars.json is a derived version of the HYG star database v4.4 by David Nash (astronexus), https://codeberg.org/astronexus/hyg License: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0), https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ Changes made: filtered to visual magnitude 6.5 and brighter, removed the Sun, converted right ascension from hours to degrees, kept only position, magnitude, B-V color, Hipparcos number, proper name, Bayer/Flamsteed designation, constellation, distance (rounded to 4 significant figures) and spectral type, and sorted by magnitude. This derived file is distributed under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license. constellations.json is derived from d3-celestial by Olaf Frohn (BSD-3-Clause), https://github.com/ofrohn/d3-celestial, with line vertices replaced by indexes into stars.json, plus constellation names and genitives. starfacts.json holds short notes on the 1,000 brightest stars. The notes were written from, and paraphrase, the English Wikipedia lead sections (CC BY-SA 4.0, https://en.wikipedia.org; each note links its article), with values from Wikidata (CC0), object types and reference counts from SIMBAD (operated at CDS, Strasbourg, France; Wenger et al. 2000, A&AS 143, 9), and name meanings paraphrased from the IAU Working Group on Star Names catalog. Distributed under CC BY-SA 4.0. How the data was gathered: scripts/star-facts/ and docs/star-facts-sources.md in the source repository.
